Lacquer Bowls and Trays (Jan 07)
Bingo!! As much as I came here to rest I couldn´t resist just quickly checking out the market for you to see what was on offer. I went in with attitude that I would just have a quick look, more like a gentle browse really … all the time thinking of these clay bowls painted with chillies that I had seen in Mexico City. Then low and behold I found an area devoted to to hand painted wooden and clay, bowls and trays … and there were some LOVELY designs. I just fell in love with them straight away and had to see if there was a way I could get them back to you in England.
Here´s some examples of the stalls from the market:

These are FAB .. I knew from the first time I saw them that I had to find a way to bring them back for you.
I have linked up with one family of artists, the head being Augustine Concepcion Rios. Together we are going to bring Happy Hammock a beautiful range of wood hand painted laquer bowls and trays.  Please see the pictures below:
1) Trays. Small and large trays ordered. 3 designs;
Chillies (green or red on a black background, L & s sizes)

Lilles (very traditional Mexican flower, think Diego Rivera paintings). Black (L & s), Yellow (s only) and Red (L only).

Sunflowers (Jirasol in Spanish, again a traditional Mexican flower)

2) Salad Blowls. Pepper range, large size, perfect for serving food from the middle of your table. Red peppers on either a black, white or yellow background. I LOVE these !
 Â
2) Smaller Dips and Snacks Bowls. All int he Chilli style. Various colours and sizes from small (good for salsa) to medium (good for Tortillas).
           Â
I think these will all look fabulous in your home and also make really different, interesting and alternative wedding gifts. Â
They are being painted right now and I will go and collect them and send back to the UK some time in March.
Before I go, here´s a picture of your artist and his family .. Augustine Concepcion Rios. Also, a picture of his son, learning the family trade .. he seemed a bit too cool for the family shot!
                 Â

Onwards and upwards .. I wonder what else Mexico has to offer!
Hobo out.
